I do not have all the answers. But I do know this: UNC is a vibrant, singular place that expects only the best from its students, because it is a college for those who try their utmost, who give life their all. I think it is time we gave UNC our all in turn. Across this campus, there are a myriad of ways in which we can, through the long journey of incremental progress, make this place ever more vibrant, ever more palpably singular. Together, we can bolster civic engagement in our student government with referendums, student organization representatives, and a focus on increasing turnout, so that all student can make their voices heard. Together, we can renew shared student experiences by increasing student organization funding and creating a student government department geared towards the promotion of events meant to enliven our campus community.
Together, we can prioritize student safety by expanding existing services like SafeWalk, as well as introducing new programs to encourage responsible behaviors both on and off campus. Together, we can include all students by formally codifying protections for our LGBTQ+ peers, as well as advocating for the restoration of a student-led Honor Court. Together, we can focus on student mental health by promoting regular Tar Heel Talks to combat loneliness and bring us closer to fellow students. Yet the key word in each of these proposals is “together.” Only together can we form a new majority and build an ever brighter future at UNC. If you believe in this mission, then I hope you’ll support my campaign and help to create a lasting movement of hope for change.
Onward and upward,
